    Peppermint oil, because of its cool and pungent taste, can be used in cosmetics, candy, wine and cooling drinks. Cru-de oil is generally used to extract menthol and make peppermint series of spices. Can also be directly used as a beverage, toothpaste, dental powder, and other spices.

    Introduction to Peppermint plants:

    Peppermint is an aromatic perennial plant. It is a hybrid mint, a cross between water mint and Spearmint indigenous to Europe and the Middle East. It belongs to the family Lamiaceae and grows throughout North America, Asia, and Europe.     

    Peppermint was first cultivated in England. In the British herbal pharmacopeia, it is described as a remedy for intestinal colic, gas, cold, morning sickness, and menstruation pain.

    The plant is cultivated for its oil. The Latin name of this oil is Mentha Piperita which belongs to the Labiatae family and commonly grows 2-3 feet long, having violet in color flowers and leaves dark growing color.

    The Properties and Components of Peppermint Oil:

    The most active components of Peppermint oil are menthol (30% - 40%) and menthone (20% - 30%).

    It is also comprised of many other minor constituents including mentha furan, limonene, and 1,8 -cineole.

    The chemical composition of the leaves of peppermint may vary with geographical region, plant maturity, and processing conditions.
